AT&T Inc. plans to cut up to 10,000 jobs, mostly through normal turnover, if its $67 billion purchase of BellSouth Corp. is approved by shareholders and regulators, AT&T's chief financial officer said Monday.

Tipping the Scales Toward National Health Care

Thirty percent of the nation’s Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) are ready for Congress to consider a national health care plan, the highest percentage ever recorded by the annual survey of U.S. senior finance executives conducted by CFO magazine. Twenty-three percent say they “are not sure” about a national plan; 45 percent are opposed.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today's announcement that AT&T will acquire Bell South has enormous implications for CWA-represented employees, millions of customers of both companies and the entire industry. It is an opportunity for change in the telecom sector that if carried out properly, could make a great stride in fulfilling the promise of technology and high speed communications for all citizens.
