Summer is a time of great need for the Food Bank; they are called upon to help out with many camps and various programs for children. With increasing prices and rising unemployment in our area, the shortage of canned and dried foods that the less fortunate members of our community depend on, continues to grow.

No Friend of the Workers

It should surprise no one, at this point, that an arm of the Bush administration charged with protecting Americans’ rights or safety is not doing its job. Even so, a government report and a Congressional hearing this week painted a disturbing picture of a Labor Department that simply is not standing up for workers.

Free Market or Welfare For the Rich

For a generation, most people accepted the idea that the core of what makes America tick was an economy governed by free markets. And whatever combination of goods, services and jobs the market cooked up was presumed to be fine for the nation and for its citizens -- certainly better than government meddling. Not anymore.
