That Sucking Sound is Your Job
Friday, 10 June 2011

Swivel seating, colo workers, relo workers at 2800 Century Center. More colo and contract workers at Alpharetta. Cable routes expanded to the point where it is impossible to patrol and protect. Buildings darkened while inside techs run around trying to maintain them. Work out-sourced to Slovakia, Phillipines, India, England spin the wheel and choose a country. The company is on a mission to diminish the American work force. This is how corporations create jobs, alot of talk during the day while they lay-off and move jobs off shore at night. Where does it end?

We are now entering the most critical phase of the bargaining unit’s existence. It is our opinion that the company has big plans by 2nd quarter 2012, they just don’t involve us. How else are they going to pay for their new acquisitions?

While they proceed with their downsizing which is reaching critical levels, vacations are being restricted while they cut overtime. Hiring is non-existent and now they are planning to bring in Temp employees in select parts of the country. It is not enough for them to squeeze every last penny from an aging network but to squeeze the life out of each employee.

So how does the company plan to accelerate there business plan?  June 15th they plan to announce another lay-off. I think everyone knows where the work will go. The dilemma of our times is that we react defensively rather than offensively to the numerous undemocratic restrictions on our freedom of mass assembly, of free speech and of our rights to express solidarity through secondary boycotts and sympathy strikes. Until we are ready to take on the unjust actions by these corporations, we will continue to loss ground for all working families.

We need to demonstrate the powers that the company understands, the ability to influence the workplace. Commit and join the struggle, the job you save may be your own.

In unity,

Roy Hegenbart
President
