Dear Brothers and Sisters: As many of you know after many years of inactivity, AT&T and Lucent along with CWA are again working together to participate in United Way Campaigns in the workplace. We are pleased to have Union Members working on campaign committees to contact bargaining unit Members with United Way information. Many of our Members have continued to support the United Way through payroll deduction and we thank all of you for your participation and CWA looks forward to welcoming new Members who choose to support the dedicated work of the United Way.
Our Local recognizes the value of the United Way as many of our members have received benefits and assistance from their programs, including “211” – a United Way service where our Members can call (toll free) to receive help in times of undue hardship or emergency. The “211” service matches agencies in their area to connect our Members to for help. When the Terrell Mill call center closed, our Members’ received direct aid from “211” which helped them through the transition. Our Members have received support from the United Way in their community on countless occasions and this is why our Members and CWA choose to support The United Way of America.
The United Way funds over 200 community services liaisons across America, which work with the Labor community to strengthen the relationship between the United Way and Labor and assist in AFL-CIO Community Services programs. CWA Local 3250 member Janine Brown is now serving in this position with the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta at the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council. Our Executive Board joins our CWA International Union, the AFL-CIO, and the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council in endorsing the United Way campaign. We recognize that many of you are already contributing and again we say “Thank You” and hope that you chose to continue. For those who have not participated in the United Way campaign in the past, we ask that you consider lending your support to this vital organization. With your strong support we help build stronger communities where we live and work for all of our Brothers and Sisters.
