Total compensation costs paid by private sector employers averaged $24.34 per hour in September, an increase of 10 cents from $24.24 per hour in the second quarter, according to figures release Dec. 9 by the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics
Total compensation for union-represented employees was $33.79 per hour, compared with $23.22 per hour for nonunion workers. Wages and salaries for union workers averaged $21.13 per hour, compared with $16.76 per hour for nonunion employees. Employer benefit costs also were higher for union workers ($12.66 per hour) than for nonunion employees ($6.45 per hour). The report is available at http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/ecec.pdf. |
