Alcatel-Lucent Absence Reporting
Tuesday, 05 February 2008
Many of our Members’ have been contacting CWA concerning Alcatel-Lucent management's decision to require that employees contact both their supervisors AND Aetna on the third day of benefit plan absence.  The Company claimed that this change was necessary as they moved the administration of Alcatel-Lucent's Short Term Disability Plan, Sickness and Accident Disability Benefit Plan, FMLA administration, and other leaves of absence to Aetna.  The Union vigorously argued that absence reporting is a bargained for item and could not be changed by the Company.

Based on those discussions, the Company is "pulling back" on the requirement for employees to notify Aetna while changes to the Sickness, Absence, Disability, Benefit Plan (SADBP) documents are being evaluated.  This change will be going out to employees and supervisors immediately.

We will keep you informed of any settlement regarding Alcatel-Lucent’s absence policy.

In unity,

Roy Hegenbart
President/Local 3250
