If you think AT&T is having cash flow problems think again. As we approach bargaining for a new contract with AT&T on April 4, 2009, here are some facts to consider from Fortune which demonstrates that our Labor has made this company a ton of money and is now the 10th most profitable company in the U.S. Let them not cry poverty during bargaining, they can well afford decent wages and benefits for all employees at AT&T.
FORTUNE 500 Annual ranking of America's largest corporations AT&T Fortune 500 Rank: 10 (Previous rank: 27) AT&T 2007 profit: $11.95 billion CEO: Randall L. Stephenson Address: 175 E. Houston St. San Antonio, TX 78205 Phone: 210-821-4105 Website: www.att.com AT&T's 2007 profit swelled 63% on sales that nearly doubled. The communications company added 9 million more wireless users in 2007, due in part to its exclusive launch of Apple's iPhone. It also dissolved the Cingular Wireless brand following its $86 billion BellSouth acquisition. The new AT&T, which jumps 17 spots on the Fortune 500, is the phoenix reborn from four different telecoms: the old AT&T, Cingular, BellSouth and SBC. That collective customer base sent sales skyrocketing 88%. The new Ma Bell scored some high-tech street cred when it became the exclusive carrier offering Apple's iPhone. That deal helped it post a record quarterly increase of 2.7 million wireless subscribers in 2007's fourth quarter. |
